ExxonMobil feels it is important to do business in a responsible manner. The company demonstrates this responsibility to society through financial support for initiatives that benefit the community.
ExxonMobil sponsors a range of nature conservation projects in the Benelux. One example of this in the Netherlands is the 'nieuwe Atlas van de Nederlandse broedvogels' (New atlas of Dutch breeding birds), a book that provides an overview of all the birds that nest in the Netherlands. The first atlas of breeding birds appeared 25 years ago, and has since served as a standard work for scientists, policy makers and bird lovers. The new atlas will be published in November 2002.
In Belgium, ExxonMobil has contributed towards the preservation of a unique nature reserve, 'De Zegge' in the Kempen. The reserve covers 100 hectares and has a huge variety of plants and animals. As a result it is very popular with botanical experts across the globe who make regular visits to the area.
ExxonMobil also provides annual support for a range of cultural events, varying from art exhibitions to music performances. You can read our policy on sponsoring here.
