Esso extends partnership with Belgian national cycling teams for three years

Belgian Cycling can count on Esso's support until at least the Olympic Games in 2024, announced ExxonMobil – the company behind Esso – and the Belgian Cycling Federation. Esso has been featured on the jersey of the national cycling teams since 2011. The teams have won 86 gold medals in the various championships and the various disciplines since the collaboration.

Bart Teirlinck, Benelux Esso retail manager, is looking forward to adding more medals over the next three years: “Cycling does something to a person. The striking images of an enthusiastic crowd during the World Cup in our own country are in our collective memory. We want to continue to support that story, hopefully with good results at the World Cups, European Championships and the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024.”

Behind the team

Following the World Championship last year, the facade of the ExxonMobil headquarters was covered in a Belgian Cycling jacket, as support for the various teams. Teirlinck: “As a partner we are proud that we can contribute to the expansion and professionalization of Belgian Cycling and the national teams. Important to us is that the less well-known disciplines and certainly also women's cycling can benefit. It explains our motto ‘Behind the team’.”

As a supplier of energy solutions, Esso sees a match with its customers. “Cyclists, cycling tourists, sports enthusiasts and car drivers are not competitors, but complement each other. Choosing a bicycle for sports or traffic fits within a thoughtful mobility mix that contributes to a love for cycling and the mobility choices of the various traffic users.”
